Today The Red Hot Chili Peppers released an interactive music video for the band’s latest single, “Look Around.” My first thought was, “it’s been done before by a number of bands” but how wrong I was. I spent 15 minutes exploring this video which for anyone is a ridiculous time but I could easily spend another 15.
The video takes place in four different rooms, one for each member of the band. The rooms reflect the personalities of that band member which seem to be contrasted between crazy, dark and just downright odd. The interactive part is that you can pan 360° back and forward, zoom in and out between each room and discover hidden gems in each one. The hidden hints in each room take you deeper into the mindset of the band with videos and photos discussing their room and overall concept.
It is great to see more bands embracing digital in this way. On a quick search I found that The Red Hot Chili Peppers also seem to be avid social media users. They have been growing an impressive following on twitter and Facebook over the years.
Ideas like this are the future as this video will be talked about, tweeted, blogged, liked and posted all over the web.
